Jill Stephenson – Honoring Ben’s Legacy: Organ and Tissue Donation

Jill at UNOS in Richmond_Oct2011
The Light of Humanity Show
Guest: Jill Stephenson

The Act of Kindness/Service: On July 10, 2009, Army Ranger, Benjamin S. Kopp, an honorable soldier  stationed in Afghanistan, saved six fellow soldiers on the battlefield before being shot by a sniper.

The Story behind the story: There was a specific question on my son’s Living Will that asked, “Do you wish to be an organ donor, and Ben wrote ‘Yes.’ The question that followed that was, “Which ones” and Ben wrote, ‘Any that are needed.’ Ben Kopp’s death on July 18, 2009 gave the gift of life and infinite blessings to over 60 other souls via organ and tissue donation. This is a story of how one man continues to create a chain of goodness after his passing and how one mother through strength and grace has created a positive mission to honor the legacy of her son in the most honorable way.

Mary J. Getten – Healing with Dolphins

Bliss dolphin Mary Getten

The Light of Humanity Show

Guest: Mary J. Getten

Bio: For the past 25 years Mary J. Getten has been educating the public about the importance of getting in touch with nature and animals. Mary leads trips around the world empowering souls to “see” and “feel” whales and dolphins up close and understand the connection with these incredible beings on the deepest personal level. Mary says, “Whales and dolphins heal our bodies with frequency. They heal our hearts and heal our emotional bodies in a way that I don’t think anyone else can.” She is a marine naturalist, animal communicator, teacher, and author of the Nautilus Award winning book Communicating with Orcas; The Whales’ Perspective. She was a coordinator of the San Juan County Marine Mammal Stranding Network, a wildlife rehabber, and leads dolphin trips in the Bahamas through Wildquest.

Mary’s most poignant memory involving creatures of the ocean:  “In 2013 I was on a dolphin trip. On the first day I was just swimming along and three dolphins came up right underneath me. They surfaced with me in the middle so there were two on one side, me in the middle, and one on the other. They said collectively, ‘You can be in our pod.’ They swam really slow so I could keep up with them. So there’s the four of us swimming alongside each other. I got to really experience what it was like to be part of their family. I felt totally loved and accepted. It was just wonderful.”

Topic: Healing with Dolphins and allowing in their healing energy, animal telepathy, magic resides in simplicity.

Darnell Barton – NY Bus Driver Saves Woman on Bridge

Darnell Barton Bus Driver2
The Light of Humanity Show
Guest: Darnell Barton
The Act of Goodness:  On October 18, 2013, Darnell Barton, a Buffalo, New York bus driver was driving a bus full of passengers on the 198 Expressway overpass when he spotted a woman on the wrong side of the guard-rail. She was holding onto the railing, leaning forward and seemed ready to jump. What happened next is a heart-warming and truly inspirational story that demands re-telling over and over and over again.

The story behind the story: Darnell says two days before saving the woman on the bridge he made a statement at church during a group session he was facilitating. He said, “I don’t feel that I’m prepared.” After saving the woman two days later Darnell said, “That was a lesson for me. God made it cleared he prepared me.”

“Part of me said, ‘Keep going because you have a job to do.
But when I saw what was happening, I couldn’t.
Getting downtown on time no longer mattered.
Helping her, saving her, getting her on the right side of the bridge,
meant absolutely everything.”

Jen Wilson – Make-A-Wish Organization: Batkid Saves the City!

The Light of Humanity Show

 Guest: Jen Wilson

The Story: One 5-year-old boy named Miles Scott had one wish…to be Batkid for the day. The hearts of an entire city answered the call and his inspirational story went viral on the Internet.

The Mission:  At Make-A-Wish®  wishes are more than just a nice thing. A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a life-threatening medical condition. This one belief guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish®.  It inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible. Most Milesof all, it’s the founding principle of our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved – wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.

Whatever the odds, whatever the obstacles … wishes find a way to make the world better.

“What we heard so many times from people about this wish is that it really uplifted them and made them feel like there is good in the world. It restored their faith in humanity.”
