The Love-and-Kindness Caffeine Experiment

Back when I worked in an office, I use to joke that our coffee machine water line must have been hooked up to the Minneapolis toilet water system. Seriously, the coffee it produced tasted that bad. So each morning, instead of drinking coffee made with toilet water, my friends Gary, Barb, and I would visit the coffee shop across the street. Upon our arrival, without fail, the young woman at the counter would ask us tersely, “What do you want?” And each day I would place the same order, a small black coffee with room for cream. The ritual became like a scene from the movie Groundhog Day: The same terse greeting, met with my ordering the same cup of coffee. We were into the second week of placing our identical coffee orders and receiving the identical response when an idea popped into my head. I told my friends, “I am going to perform a love-and-kindness caffeine experiment.” They laughed, as they had no idea what I was talking about.

I elaborated. “A love-and-kindness caffeine experiment is something I am creating right now. I’m going to shower this woman with genuine love and kindness and see if that makes a difference in her demeanor.” I continued, “I have a feeling she has seldom seen either of these things demonstrated in her life.” So each morning, off we went to the coffee shop. But now, in addition to placing my coffee-Groundhog-Day order, I would say with sincerity something nice.

The first day of my experiment, I told the girl, “I don’t even know your name. My name is Molly, and these are my friends Barb and Gary. What’s your name?”

“My name is April,” she answered without looking up. I replied truthfully, “I really like that name. It’s very nice.”

The second day, we went in and I said, “Hi, April. I’m Molly. Remember me? I’ll take a small coffee with room for cream. Thank you.”

The third day, I greeted April as usual, but this time she replied, “I know, small coffee with room for cream.”

That simple statement made me smile, because it showed my friends and me how quickly this love-and-kindness caffeine experiment was producing results.

By the end of that first week, April now greeted us as we came in the door: “Hey, Molly, I’ll get your black coffee with room for cream.” I replied sincerely, “Thanks, April, for remembering my order.” The love-and-kindness caffeine experiment taught each one of us that love and kindness, like cream and sugar, are ingredients that can turn a bland encounter in to an inspirational story demanding to be retold. When we take the time to crack open someone’s door with heartfelt kindness, the light of love is then granted access, shining through to reach the recipient’s heart. This process creates a positive shift and change at the soul level.

Project Ellen DeGeneres – BELIEVE with Me – Day Fourteen!…Spreading Kindness Around the Globe and being on Ellen’s show too!

Today’s message – Kind acts produce kind teaching moments

Kind acts not only live forever in the heart, but also are effective teaching tools. One of the coolest things I have experienced since the birth of my granddaughter Hailey more than seven years ago is that whenever an animal or human needs assistance or a prayer, she happens to be with me. I affectionately call her my little “magic magnet,” for I know there is always a great purpose behind each one of these divinely guided spiritual encounters.

Hailey and I were in the car and had just turned onto the road, leaving one of her favorite parks. We’d been traveling for less than a minute when I noticed a painted turtle up ahead, trying desperately to cross to the other side of the road as cars drove over it between their tires.

I announced, “Hailey, we have a turtle to save! Are you ready?”

Hailey said in return, “Yes, Grandma. Save him!”

I pulled safely off the road and rolled down the window so Hailey could watch a good deed in action (and give me direction if needed from her car seat). I got out and, as I stood by the side of the road, cars continued rolling over the turtle as it tried to cross. I was dumbfounded as to why people wouldn’t stop or slow down for one minute so I could pick up the creature and move it.

So I did what any kindergarten crossing guard would do. I raised my hand at the next car that approached and said, “Stop!” The driver halted the moment I raised my hand. I stooped down, picked up the painted turtle, and brought him or her (I’m not sure which—I didn’t pay much attention in science class) to its intended destination.

I heard Hailey yell from the window. “We saved him, Grandma!”

After I got back in the car Hailey said again, “We saved that turtle, didn’t we, Grandma.”

I said, “Absolutely!”

A few minutes later, we were back on the highway, heading east, when we came upon an illuminated billboard. These billboards change every twenty seconds or so, beaming a new digital advertisement. As we approached, the billboard changed, and up popped an ad for the Minnesota Zoo. The image that flashed across it was a larger-than-life photo of a painted turtle.

I shouted, “Hailey, look, that turtle is thanking us for saving its life!”

What are the chances that we would save a painted turtle and then moments later pass by a billboard that just happens to change to a picture of a painted turtle the minute we drive by it? I’m not a betting woman. I don’t even like casinos, but I bet the odds are about a ba-jillion to one. This, my friends, is what a spiritual sign from our Angels and Spirit Guides looks like. I believe they were saying, “Thank you, ladies, for taking the time to save one of God’s creatures.”

People learn about kindness in many different ways. Some of us learn by demonstration and others by getting involved. However you learn is right for you; what’s important is to be open to the learning process so you can grow your spirit.

Today’s message - Pay it Forward

One year ago today my mother, the earthly Angel joined the beloved Angels in heaven. She left a impact on many hearts during her time here with her kind words, loving actions, and shining her light to all who came across her path.

Back in 2011, my mother decided to have a Pay it Forward type of Christmas. She wanted to make a difference in the lives of others by having each family member start our own chain of making a difference. So instead of presents that might be returned or exchanged, she gave all of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids a card with a ten-dollar bill inside. She asked that each of us take the ten dollars and give it away to one person, or more than one person, in need. That meant we could give it all to one person, one dollar each to ten people, and so on. All she asked for in return was the story behind the giving.

My husband, Peter, and I donated our money to an animal shelter that rescues ill and injured animals. Our daughter Maddy donated her money to a fundraiser to benefit a woman with cancer. Our other daughter, Mallory, and granddaughter, Hailey, donated their money to an organization that helps wounded sol- diers. Each donation was unique, showing the beautifully diverse and immense possibilities for becoming Spiritual Samaritans.

Angels of highest light and love, Angels that radiate beams of pure energy from the heavens above.

Please join us and be with us on this very night, As the soul of our beloved joins you in flight.

We pray that you send this soul embraced in your lovely wings,

During his journey may he hear harps, and trumpets and strings.

Don’t you just love Ellen Degeneres’ smile? Each time you see it, doesn’t it make you feel better, happier, more joyful? I believe a smile is like a ray of sunshine that emanates light and that light when it lands upon another soul instantly fills the heart with feelings of warmth – love.

I once had a real estate client named Jenna. She worked in downtown Minneapolis and had such a great attitude. We liked to share positive life stories as we drove around together looking for that perfect house. One day she said, “Molly, do you know what I do when I walk through the skyway system on my way to work?” I replied, “No. What do you do?” She said, “I smile at people. I don’t say anything, I just give them a big smile as I pass by my fellow human.” I questioned, “What do people do in return?” She responded, “Some look very confused. I can tell that in their heads they are thinking, is she smiling at me? Why is she smiling at me?” She went on, “I can tell that for some people, it really touches their hearts. My simple smile makes them feel good, and it makes me feel good. That’s precisely why I do it.”

Bringing joy to another unconditionally makes our hearts sing and our souls sing louder!

There are many things joy can accomplish:

• Joy creates more joy.
• Joy builds within us as we continue to work on ourselves.
• Your joy can be the impetus that motivates others to find their way to joy.
• Joy allows you to feel and acknowledge all things wonderful while you are on your journey.

Today’s message - Spreading Love and Kindness Far and Wide

Spreading love and kindness before you is quite easy really. It’s as easy as making an earthly “Angel” food cake. Here are the only ingredients you will ever need. Love is the foundation on which your encounter is built, and showing kindness should be your only motive. A clear indicator that you are spreading love and kindness before you successfully is when you feel the love welling inside your own heart as you see changes occurring as a result of your efforts. Allowing love and kindness to be dispensed in this unconditional way creates miracles in the lives of all involved.

How to spread love and kindness:

• Put out the intention to live with love and kindness as the foundation of your life and give them away freely and unconditionally, trusting that you have a limitless supply, because you do!
• Have compassion for and a vested interest in all souls, not just immediate family and friends.*Scan your heart in each encounter with another to make sure your intentions are true, noble, and selfless. This will ensure that you never miss a beat to show love and kindness.
• Greet everyone you meet with a smile, hug, or kind word or thought.

Today’s message – Synchronicities reveal truth and meaning behind daily events

Did you know there is special significance and a truth to be revealed in absolutely everything we do? Even something as simple as clicking on a link that brings you to one website, then another, then perhaps another until you land at the location you know in your heart is exactly what you were looking for. A subtle shifting occurred behind the scenes to get us to that precise point in time and that exact location. This is called Divine Synchronicity. The sooner we come to understand Divine Synchronicity the sooner we come to know that nothing is insignificant and there are no coincidences.

Our Angels are guiding us with unconditional love, truth, and wisdom continuously behind the scenes, steering us in the specific direction our souls want us to travel. Once our spirit here, in this human body, decides to become illuminated, the truths that have always been presented to us in the form of synchronicities become daily revelations.

We begin to say things like, “Why didn’t I see that before?” We begin to recall occurrences that passed by us without our giving them much thought, but that are now being brought forth in the form of reflection for optimal learning. We begin to know that everything is divinely connected and divinely guided.

Here is an example of a Divine Synchronicity (pure truth) I discovered as I was writing this blog post. Ellen DeGeneres and I love to tilt our heads when having our picture taken. This “head tilting” as you can see has spanned the decades. I noticed even as young girls we have an affinity for tilting our heads in a specific direction.

Divine Synchronicities provide wisdom that can be fun as in the example I just showed you. Synchronicities can also save your life or that of another.  It is the intentional conscious act of desiring to gain wisdom by following synchronicities that allows the soul the gift of pure sight. Pure sight says, “Show me the truth in everything.” A soul who is a seeker of truth becomes adept at finding the synchronistic meaning behind all life events. A soul who is a seeker of pure truth will find their life purpose. This is a Universal Truth.

As your desire to live in the truth builds, your ability to see the truth in the synchronicities placed before you will build, too!

I spent the day with my granddaughter Hailey yesterday. It is always a blessing to be able to spend the afternoon with an earthly Angel. Hailey, as I like to affectionately call her, is my little “magic magnet.” Whenever I spend time with her, magical and lovely things occur. It’s just something I have come to know and yesterday was no different. You see Hailey is a pro at shining the light of love and joy from her heart for all to see. Because she flows out love and joy so freely she also receives love and joy in return quite efficiently and easily.

Let me explain. It was a beautiful spring day yesterday and Hailey suggested a nature walk behind our house. I happily obliged. We were on our walk for just a minute or two when I said, “I have an idea. Let’s look for heart rocks today.” Hailey replied, “That’s a great idea!” Within 2 minutes of that exchange my little magic magnet looked down to find these two rocks right next to each other on the path. Hailey exclaimed with joy in her heart, “How about these rocks, Grandma? Aren’t they perfect?”

Here is another example of finding heart-shaped love with Hailey. This delicate “heart sticker” was on the ground in the wood chips by the swing at the playground two weeks earlier.

Ellen DeGeneres is adept at the same beautiful skill of shining love and joy from her heart for all to see and thus she receives a lot of love and joy from all her faithful followers in return. This is how fabulous and simple sharing love and joy can be. The more love and joy you give. The more love and joy you receive.

Here are some easy tips to ground your life and projects in love:

• Form a Divine Partnership with your Angels and Guides. Call on them to help you manifest the perfect heart-shaped anything!
• Put out the intention from your heart that you want to see love, experience love, give love and receive love.
• Then all you have to do is be on the look out for love in all shapes, sizes and forms and you will be amazed at all the perfect, synchronistically placed heart-shaped rocks, buttons, stickers, pictures, candy, or even tattoos! Have fun! Anything you can imagine that is heart-shaped you may find as soon as you ask for assistance from your Angels.

Once you find heart rocks or items that have special meaning to you, plant them around your home, office, or car. Any thing you do that is grounded in the intention of pure love and joy will produce strong roots for steady growth and a stable life journey.
